Admirals Welcome the Damas for Annual Visit
Earlier this week, we had the honor of welcoming the Damas to our school!
Every year, Rota celebrates Virgen del Rosario, its Patron Saint. The Damas tradition, which began decades ago, represents the women of Rota during these festivities. The American community has proudly been part of this tradition for many years, strengthening the bond between our two communities.
Each year, one DGF high school senior is chosen to represent the American presence in Rota during the festivities. This year, we are thrilled to celebrate Ms. Melissa Doelfel as the American Dama!
The Damas participate in a variety of activities throughout the summer, and one of the highlights is their visit to the Base. Coordinated by the Spanish navy, this visit includes a tour of the Spanish Airwing Flotilla, a Spanish ship tour, and a special stop at our very own Rota Middle High School.
This visit is always a fantastic opportunity for the Damas to learn more about the American Dama and the differences between the Spanish and U.S. education systems. It also gives our students a chance to practice their Spanish, make cultural connections, and proudly show the Damas around our school.
We are grateful for this enriching experience and look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition for years to come!
