Artists in the Spotlight
In their short time at Rota Middle High School, Remi, Gia, and Phoenix have already made a vibrant mark on our arts community. Their dedication to their craft is remarkable. Each sibling explored a distinct artistic voice while also supporting and inspiring one another. Remi is drawn to the precision and discipline of technical pens, creating highly detailed works that use texture and value to build depth and emotion. Meanwhile, Gia and Phoenix have been experimenting boldly with acrylic paints, embracing color, movement, and expressive brushwork as they bring their ideas to life.
Their passion for creativity doesn’t end when the final bell rings. At home, the three transform their kitchen table into a full art studio, continuing to sketch, paint, imagine, and refine their skills. This love of turning ideas into tangible expression is exactly what art education is all about. Several of their pieces will be entered into the Scholastic Art Awards, a program that recognizes artistic excellence and encourages young artists to pursue their creative potential.
Art in schools is far more than a class period or an extracurricular activity. It is a powerful tool for helping students develop confidence, visual literacy, emotional expression, empathy, and critical thinking. Creating art helps students learn to take risks, solve problems, and persevere through challenges, all skills that transfer into every academic area. It also offers students a meaningful way to express who they are and how they see the world, strengthening both personal identity and mental well-being.
We are incredibly proud of Remi, Gia, and Phoenix for their dedication, curiosity, and creativity. Their work reminds us of the essential role the arts play in fostering well-rounded, deeply engaged learners. We look forward to seeing where their artistic journeys take them next!
