RMHS Alumna Earns Appointment to the United States Naval Academy

Rota Middle High School is proud to celebrate the accomplishments of alumna Rachel Owins, who recently received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy and was inducted into the Naval Academy's Class of 2030 during Plebe Summer in Annapolis, Maryland.

Admission to the United States Naval Academy is among the most selective opportunities available to students pursuing military service and leadership. Each year, approximately 1,200 candidates are chosen from a highly competitive pool of applicants from across the United States and around the world.

Rachel's appointment is the culmination of years of hard work, leadership, service, and perseverance. During her time at Rota Middle High School, she distinguished herself both in and out of the classroom. She served as the Executive Officer of NJROTC, was a captain of both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams, and consistently demonstrated the character, discipline, and commitment that define successful leaders.

What makes Rachel's achievement especially meaningful is that it reflects more than academic excellence or athletic success. Throughout her time at Rota, she was known for leading by example, supporting her peers, and embracing opportunities to serve her school and community. Whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, or through NJROTC, Rachel approached every challenge with determination and purpose.

Following her graduation from Rota Middle High School, Rachel continued her path of service and leadership through participation in the University of Florida's Navy ROTC program, further preparing herself for the demands and responsibilities of military service.

Plebe Summer marks the beginning of a challenging journey for incoming midshipmen as they prepare for four years of academic, military, and leadership development at the Naval Academy. Upon graduation, midshipmen earn a Bachelor of Science degree and commission as officers in the United States Navy or Marine Corps.

Rachel's accomplishment serves as an inspiration to current and future Admirals. Her success is a reminder that great things are possible when talent is paired with hard work, resilience, and a commitment to serving something greater than oneself.
