Rota Mathletes Represent with Excellence in Germany
Our Rota Mathletes recently traveled to Wiesbaden, Germany to compete in the Department of War MATHCOUNTS State Competition, and they represented our school with excellence. In addition to the competition, students engaged in a variety of hands-on challenges, including programming sphero-bots and participating in orienteering activities. They also visited a mathematics museum, where they explored concepts like symmetry, conic sections, and the role of mathematics in architecture, bringing their learning to life in meaningful ways.
We are especially proud of Sam S., who was selected to compete in the highly competitive Countdown Round. In this fast-paced, head-to-head event, Sam earned an impressive 4th place finish against top Mathletes from across the region.
We also want to recognize Mrs. Rogers, whose leadership, care, and commitment to students were evident throughout this entire experience. She not only prepared our students to compete at a high level, but created an environment where they felt supported, challenged, and confident. Her presence made a difference in how our students showed up and performed.
In addition to coaching our team, Mrs. Rogers competed in the Coaches Challenge, where she earned an outstanding 2nd place finish, contributing to a full sweep for Europe South. This accomplishment reflects the same dedication, expertise, and passion she brings to her students each day.
The 2026 Department of War MATHCOUNTS State Competition highlights not only exceptional mathematical talent, but also the perseverance, discipline, and problem-solving mindset we strive to build in our classrooms every day.
MATHCOUNTS, supported by the Defense Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education Consortium (DSEC), provides students with meaningful opportunities to think critically, collaborate, and apply their learning in challenging and authentic ways. Through this work, students are not only engaging in mathematics, but they are also developing skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
Each year, middle school students begin at the District level, advancing through increasingly rigorous rounds of competition. The State Competition brings together the strongest Mathletes from DoWEA-Europe and DoWEA-Pacific to compete at the highest level, with the opportunity to qualify for the national competition.
What stands out most is not just the competition itself, but the growth we see in our students and their confidence, their willingness to take on challenges, and their ability to think deeply and persist when the work gets hard. That is what this experience is really about.
We are incredibly proud of our Rota Mathletes and grateful for the leadership that made this experience possible. Their hard work and commitment continue to reflect the very best of what it means to be an Admiral.
