The Rota tennis team stepped onto the court this week to take on a strong Naples squad, and while the scoreboard didn’t swing in our favor across the board, the day was filled with powerful rallies, promising performances, and moments of true tenacity.

Boys’ Singles & Doubles: Learning from the Best

Parker and Brandon faced experienced opponents in singles, with Parker taking on Naples’ top seed, Lord, and Brandon going head-to-head with the ever-consistent Ian. Despite tough scores (Parker 0-6, 0-6; Brandon 0-8), both players kept their heads high and showed admirable sportsmanship.

In doubles, the duo of Parker and Brandon regrouped and put up a spirited fight against Naples’ Nathan and Ian, gaining momentum in the second set (1-6, 3-6). The experience gave them valuable insights and set the stage for stronger future matchups.

Girls’ Singles: A Gritty Battle and a Strong Win

One of the day’s highlights came from Maya Mercado, who delivered a commanding win over Madison from Naples, 6-2, 6-2. Maya’s focus, consistency, and powerful forehands kept her in control from start to finish.

Danaeyah also played a nail-biter against Rita, Danaeyah was winning with a 3-0 lead until she started cramping on her legs, giving momentum to her opponent. She kept pushing her opponent to the edge in a tight 6-8 match that showed off her determination and endurance.

Isabel Lanker and Esther Lopez faced tough opponents, each falling 0-8, but continued to fight for every point and walk away with lessons that will only strengthen their game.
